Overview
Teletón Colombia is a Colombian non-profit foundation whose work focuses on comprehensive rehabilitation for people with physical disabilities, within a framework of rights recognition and inclusion. Its work has three components: functional rehabilitation, strengthening of skills for social inclusion, and training for users and their caregivers. In 2019 it consolidated the Alianza Roosevelt Teletón with the Instituto Roosevelt, and the board of the Fundación Teletón is the same board as that of the Instituto Roosevelt. Dr. José Ignacio Zapata, who has led the Instituto Roosevelt for more than 20 years, also directs the Fundación Teletón in Colombia. The Alianza Roosevelt Teletón is open to all Colombians with motor, cognitive and auditory disabilities.
History
Teletón Colombia has been described as an effort of all Colombians united by a feeling of solidarity. In 2019, the Alianza Roosevelt Teletón was consolidated after the Fundación Teletón sought a high-quality and excellence partner with the same mission. Both organizations are non-profit entities with a social, human and quality-of-care focus, and both work strongly for rehabilitation and labor inclusion. The board of the Fundación Teletón is now the same board as that of the Instituto Roosevelt, and within the organization they work for the same cause. Dr. José Ignacio Zapata, who has led the work of the Instituto Roosevelt for more than 20 years, also assumes the direction of the Fundación Teletón in Colombia.
