Overview

Telesandomenico, commonly known as TSD Tv or simply TSD, is a private Italian regional television network based in Arezzo, Tuscany. It is the official broadcasting arm of the Diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro and is dedicated to social, religious and cultural communication for the local territory. The channel was founded in 1980 as the television station of the parish of San Domenico in Arezzo, from which its name derives. Since 1998 it has been entrusted to the Fondazione TSD Comunicazioni, a foundation established to develop the communication activities of the local Church. TSD reaches the provinces of Arezzo, Florence, Prato and Perugia, covering a potential audience of roughly 400,000 viewers. It broadcasts on digital terrestrial channel UHF 25 with LCN 85, and also streams live online 24 hours a day. According to its own account, it is the Tuscan broadcaster with the highest level of continuity in audience ratings. It is one of the local stations that carries the programming of TV2000 in syndication. The station's output places particular emphasis on schools and students, foreign-language communities (English, French, Polish, Albanian, Romanian and Arabic) through dedicated weekly newscasts in their native languages, the third sector with attention to disability, minority and major sports, and international affairs with a focus on the Holy Land and Jerusalem. Following the 2010 digital terrestrial switchover, TSD completely renewed its operations with new people and technologies, and in 2012 it co-founded the Consorzio Toscana Link together with TvPrato and the Tuscan diocesan weekly Toscana Oggi to produce content covering the whole of Tuscany. Through a specialised team with experience at national networks, TSD also offers technical video services independent of the TSD brand, including live television and internet streaming of events.

History

Telesandomenico was founded in 1980 in Arezzo as the television station of the parish of San Domenico, which gave the channel its name. From its origins as a parish broadcaster, it grew into a regional television service for the Church in Tuscany. In 1998 the Fondazione TSD Comunicazioni was established to develop and manage the communication activities of the local Church, and the station was entrusted to this foundation. Over the following decade TSD established itself as a significant local broadcaster. It became one of the local stations carrying the programming of TV2000 in syndication. When Italy completed the switch-off of analogue terrestrial television, TSD secured fifth place in the regional ranking compiled by the Ministry of Economic Development, helped by agreements with other Tuscan broadcasters. The transition to digital terrestrial television in 2010 prompted a complete renewal of the station, with new personnel and technologies that raised the quality of its content and services; it also began transmitting a live stream 24 hours a day. In 2012, together with TvPrato and the weekly newspaper of the Tuscan dioceses, Toscana Oggi, TSD co-founded the Consorzio Toscana Link. Through this consortium the partners produce content covering the whole of Tuscany with innovative television formats. TSD also developed a specialised team with experience at national networks, enabling it to offer technical video services independent of the TSD brand, such as live television and internet streaming of events anywhere in the territory. The station broadcasts on digital terrestrial UHF channel 25 with LCN 85 and reaches the provinces of Arezzo, Florence, Prato and Perugia, with a potential audience of about 400,000 viewers.
