Over the decades, Telegenova has undergone several ownership and format changes, including a rebranding as Telegenova Live in 2013 and a return to its original name in 2015 under the sole ownership of Sergio Barello. The station broadcasts a mix of news, sports, entertainment, culture, and teleshopping on regional digital terrestrial frequencies. As of 2023, it is visible on channel 14 in Liguria, and since September 2026 it has been broadcasting in high definition. The station's slogan is "La tv che cresce" (The TV that grows).

History

Telegenova was founded in 1974 by Umberto Bassi as a cable television station, becoming the first broadcaster in Liguria and one of the earliest local television stations in Italy. In 1986, the station was acquired by Salvatore Cingari, who consolidated its regional focus and expanded its programming. In 2003, Telegenova's experience with two satellite channels (Liguria Sat) led to experimental digital terrestrial broadcasting. In 2013, the station was refounded as Telegenova Live, an initiative by Sergio Barello, Lino Campisi, and Andrea Biondi. The rebranding brought back personalities such as Corrado Tedeschi and Paola Balsomini, but the station struggled to regain its former prominence. In 2015, Sergio Barello acquired full ownership and reverted the name to Telegenova. The newsroom was rebuilt with a mix of veteran journalists like Guido Martinelli and Luca Lavagetto, and younger talents such as Sara Tagliente and Alessandro Bacci. Silvana Bonelli served as news director until 2016, when Sara Tagliente took over. In the summer of 2015, the station suffered the loss of historic director and editor Pierluigi Manfra, known as "Pigio", who died at 55 on 27 July. Telegenova broadcasts on the regional multiplex Telecity Liguria on frequency 24. Since 1 January 2023, it is also visible on channel 14 of digital terrestrial. From 9 September 2026, it broadcasts in high definition. The station's slogan is "La tv che cresce" (The TV that grows).
