Overview
Tegernsee-Bahn Betriebsgesellschaft mbH (TBG) is a German railway infrastructure and transport company headquartered in Tegernsee, Bavaria. It owns and operates the 12.4-kilometre railway line between Schaftlach and Tegernsee, including the platforms and stops at Moosrain and Finsterwald and the platforms at Gmund and Tegernsee stations. The company is also responsible for the level crossings along the route. The station buildings at Tegernsee and Gmund are owned by the town of Tegernsee and the municipality of Gmund respectively. The company was founded in 1983 by Tegernsee-Bahn Aktiengesellschaft (TAG), today TAG Immobilien AG, to spin off the railway operation from the group. The parent company had been founded in 1882 as a railway company but had largely shifted its business to real estate. TAG held 100% of the shares until 20 December 2012, when it sold the Tegernsee Railway for eleven million euros to the municipalities of Tegernsee and Gmund (45% each) and the district of Miesbach (10%). After the railway operation on the line (today's regional railway line RB 57) was awarded to Bayerische Oberlandbahn in 1998 as part of a tender by Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft (BEG), TBG sold its vehicles and became solely an infrastructure company. A Köf III locomotive, temporarily the only traction unit, was sold at the end of 2018. Since February 2018, TBG has had a historic railcar, VT 27, for museum trips. Heino Seeger was managing director from May 2013 to June 2021; on 1 July 2021, Michael Bourjau, second mayor of Tegernsee, took over the management on an interim basis, with Seeger remaining as railway operations manager. At the end of October 2025, the DB Group announced that DB InfraGO AG would take over Tegernsee-Bahn Betriebsgesellschaft mbH with the Schaftlach–Tegernsee line and its 14 employees. It will be run as an independent company within DB RegioNetz Infrastruktur GmbH. DB InfraGO plans to upgrade and electrify the line, digitalise the train radio and signal box technology for Gmund and Tegernsee stations, adapt the level crossings and increase speed in sections.
