Overview

TCF Telecineforum (formerly Tele Cine Forum) is a local Italian television channel headquartered in Messina, Sicily. It originated from the Telecineforum cooperative, which since 1984 had been active in video production and post-production and was chaired by Ubaldo Vinci. TCF was initially established as a community broadcaster at the Messina premises of the Istituto Don Orione, with all low- and high-frequency installations built by three technicians: Angelo Di Russo, Piero Ingegnoso and Antonino Carrisi. In the same month of July, the first live broadcasts began via a mobile control room, covering an international tennis tournament and later musical and folkloristic events. The channel's programming was based mainly on films, TV series, cartoons and its own productions (mostly documentaries made by the cooperative), and it operated without any syndication ties. For several months TCF exchanged programmes with the Apulian broadcaster Telenorba, and later the internal staff was expanded, allowing 80% of output to be self-produced. Technicians of that period included Antonino Carrisi (audio technician and RVM editor), Piero Ingegnoso (technical manager, head of technical staff and director), Angelo Di Russo (director and mobile unit coordinator), Roberto Travia, Francesco Gambadoro, Domenico Giacoppo, Gianfranco Arnò, Natale Teletta, Geri Sorrenti and Giacomo Molonia (camera operators), and Luisa Giunta, Valentina Anastasi and Ivan Vinci (RVM editors). In 1992 the cooperative's crisis led to the sale of the business branch to the Messina entrepreneur Alfredo Schipani, who ran it until 1998, when it was taken over by the radio entrepreneur Emanuele Giaimo of Studio 55, who still owns it today. The channel was the first in the Messina area to equip itself with a fully digital control room based on MPEG-2 acquisition and four editing stations with servers and digital player machines. Today TCF operates as TCF Online (tcftv.it), providing local news and information for the city of Messina, covering topics such as city council debates, local infrastructure, health, justice, and community events.
