Overview

Takasago Industry Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of industrial furnaces and vacuum heat-treatment equipment headquartered in Toki, Gifu Prefecture. The company was founded in September 1953 as a corporate successor to Takasago Kogyo-sho, a workshop established in 1931 by Yoshinori Suzuki in the Mino ware pottery district of Toki. It began as a maker of kilns for ceramic products and has since grown into a specialist in heat-treatment technology, supplying furnaces and related systems to a wide range of industries. The company designs, manufactures, installs and maintains industrial furnaces and vacuum furnaces capable of operating from roughly 100 °C to 1,800 °C. Its product range includes more than 19 industrial furnace lines and 26 vacuum heat-treatment models, and the company conducts around 150 test runs per year to develop optimal solutions for customers. Its proprietary technologies include Hi-Pascal cooling and airtight structural technology. Applications span electronic components, lithium-ion battery materials, aerospace parts, ceramics, tableware and other advanced manufacturing fields. Takasago Industry is a private company with capital of 100 million yen and approximately 220 employees. Its fiscal year ends on 30 June. The company operates from its headquarters in Toki and maintains additional sites including the Imari Plant in Saga Prefecture and an Awaji sales office. It has historically established joint ventures in Malaysia, Iran, Taiwan, the Philippines and China, reflecting an international dimension to its kiln and furnace business. The company holds ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental) certifications and positions environmental responsibility as a core mission, developing energy-saving furnaces with waste-heat recovery, high-efficiency insulation and regenerative burner technology. It is also active in community engagement in the Mino ware region, hosting factory tours and internships and supporting local events. With more than 70 years of history, Takasago Industry continues to pursue heat-treatment innovation under the leadership of President Tatsuya Suzuki.

History

Takasago Industry traces its origins to September 1931, when Yoshinori Suzuki established Takasago Kogyo-sho in Dachi-cho, Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, and began designing and manufacturing various industrial kilns. In September 1953, the business was reorganized into a corporation as Takasago Industry Co., Ltd., with Suzuki becoming its first representative director and president. This date is recognized as the company's founding. During 1957–1966, the company built tile, raw material and machinery plants at its current headquarters location, establishing the foundation of the business. In February 1965, it established Takasago Tile Co., Ltd. in Kado-cho, Mizunami City, Gifu Prefecture, and began manufacturing unglazed mosaic tiles. In April 1966, it became an investee of Nagoya Small and Medium Enterprise Investment and Development Co., Ltd., and in October 1966 the current head office building was completed. In March 1968, the Imari Plant was built in Higashiyamashiro-cho, Imari City, Saga Prefecture, starting the design and construction of industrial kilns and related equipment as well as the manufacture of glazed tiles. In the 1970s, the company expanded internationally through joint ventures: Fancy Tile in Malaysia (January 1970), Alborz Ceramic in Iran (April 1973), Asahi Ceramics in Taiwan (September 1974), and Filmosaic in the Philippines (February 1975). Domestically, it developed externally heated rotary kilns and carbonization rotary kilns (March 1975), a continuous firing furnace for smoked tiles (July 1975), a high-efficiency tableware plant combining a micro kiln and roller hearth kiln (March 1977), and a high-performance super-wide kiln for glazed tile firing (February 1978). In March 1979, it obtained permission to display the Japanese Industrial Standard for tile manufacturing. In the 1980s, the company expanded its headquarters facilities with a machine tool concentrated plant (July 1981), a fan and burner production plant (December 1982), and a test furnace plant (July 1983). It developed an internally heated rotary kiln (March 1983) and a honeycomb firing tunnel kiln (May 1983). In February 1985, it completed and announced a fully automatic computer-controlled tunnel kiln for porcelain tableware firing, commissioned by the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency. It developed a fully automatic glazed mosaic tile production plant (November 1986), a reduction-firing roller hearth kiln for porcelain tableware (February 1987), and a computer-operated furnace monitoring, management and control system (June 1987). In March 1988, Yoshitake Suzuki became representative director and president. In the 1990s, the company introduced CAD systems in its design department (January 1990, fully renewed August 1997 and updated regularly thereafter). It opened the Awaji Sales Office in Seidan-cho, Mihara District, Hyogo Prefecture (September 1994). It developed electrically heated special atmosphere-controlled batch rotary kilns (April 1998) and gas-heated special atmosphere-controlled continuous rotary kilns (April 1999), and obtained ISO 9001 certification in December 1999. In the 2000s, the company developed electrically heated special atmosphere-controlled pusher kilns (July 2000), elevator furnaces (May 2001), batch microwave firing furnaces (October 2001), microwave continuous furnaces and microwave-plus-gas hybrid kilns (June 2003), and electrically heated special atmosphere-controlled roller hearth kilns (July 2003). In July 2003, Hiroshi Watanabe became representative director and president. In December 2004, a joint venture, Foshan Takasago Industrial Kiln Co., Ltd., was registered in Foshan, Guangdong Province, China. In February 2005, it developed a microwave-electric-vacuum hybrid cart elevator kiln. In April 2005, it implemented company-wide initiatives (details truncated in source). The company has continued to operate for more than 70 years, maintaining its headquarters in Toki City and emphasizing heat-treatment technology innovation, quality and environmental management under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
