As of 2019 its largest shareholder was the Ministry of Economic Affairs with a 38.88% stake.
History
Taiwan Salt's history is presented in phases. In the state-owned period, Taiwan Salt Works (臺灣製鹽總廠) was established in 1952 under the Salt Industry Reorganization Committee of the Ministry of Economic Affairs; the Tongxiao Refined Salt Plant was completed in 1975, introducing advanced ion-exchange membrane electrodialysis salt production. In 1981 it came under the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In 1995 it was restructured into Taiwan Salt Industrial Corporation. In 1999 a Southern Taiwan Science Park branch (technology plant) was established. In 2002 the last traditional solar-evaporation salt field, Qigu Salt Field, closed in May, and the Tongxiao Refined Salt Plant took over national salt supply. In 2003 it began developing its own biotechnology franchise store channel and listed on the stock exchange, completing privatization. In 2007 it built the Taichung Port salt warehouse in the Taichung Port Free Trade Zone. In 2010 it established Taiwan Salt (Xiamen) Import & Export Co., Ltd. In 2014 its salt products obtained HALAL certification and its stock category changed from chemicals to food. In 2017 it invested to establish Taiwan Salt Green Energy Co., Ltd. to promote the solar energy industry. In 2025 the Taiwan Salt Biotech Plant No. 3 toothpaste GMP workshop was completed and officially opened.
