History
TLC BioSciences was founded in 1997 by Dr. Keelung Hong, a liposome scientist who worked alongside Dr. Demetrios Papahadjopoulos and was involved in the development of the first FDA-approved liposomal drugs, Doxil and Onivyde. After co-founding a liposomal company in the United States, Dr. Hong established TLC in Taiwan. The company developed three approved liposomal drugs for oncology indications that were outlicensed for commercialization, and later shifted focus to orthopedics and pain management. Its pipeline includes late clinical-stage liposome solutions for osteoarthritis and postsurgical pain, as well as lipid nanoparticle candidates for cartilage protection and regeneration.
