Overview

Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation (TDCC) traces its origin to the October 1989 establishment of "Taiwan Securities Central Depository Company," created to build and promote a book-entry system for securities custody and settlement. It extended into futures back-office systems in 1997, was entrusted with stock-affairs auditing from 1998, merged with Taiwan Bills Clearing and Depository Corporation and was renamed in 2006, merged Taiwan Comprehensive Stock Affairs Data Processing Company in 2014, and in 2015 invested in the founding of FundRich Securities. Through these mergers it describes itself as the sole back-office institution of Taiwan's financial market, offering a diversified market platform for equity securities, fixed income, bills, funds, futures and cross-border custody services.

History

In the 1980s, sustained high economic growth in Taiwan fostered a booming stock market; to solve the problem of large volumes of physical share settlement, the competent authority tasked Taiwan Stock Exchange, securities firms and financial institutions with planning a book-entry system for securities. In October 1989, "Taiwan Securities Central Depository Company" was established as the predecessor of the present company, responsible for building and promoting the centralized custody of securities and the book-entry settlement system. When the futures exchange was established in 1997, the company was commissioned to develop and maintain the futures clearing system, formally entering futures market back-office system services. From 1998, the competent authority administratively entrusted the company with stock affairs auditing to institutionalize market stock affairs operations. In 2006, under policy guidance, the company merged with Taiwan Bills Clearing and Depository Corporation and was renamed "Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation." In 2014, to advance shareholder activism in the securities market, it merged Taiwan Comprehensive Stock Affairs Data Processing Company. In 2015, in line with the competent authority's fintech innovation policy, it invested in the establishment of FundRich Securities Co., Ltd., providing investors with a safe, convenient and diversified online fund sales platform. Through these mergers, the company states it has become the sole back-office institution of Taiwan's financial market, providing a diversified market platform for equity securities, fixed income, bills, funds, futures and cross-border custody services.
