Overview

The Taipei Philharmonic Foundation for Culture and Education (Taipei Philharmonic) is an arts foundation based in Taipei, Taiwan. It was founded in 1988 by choral conductor Tu Hei together with a group of musicians and entrepreneurs, aiming to promote the popularization of music domestically. Initially focused on supporting the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus, it later established children's, chamber, youth, women's and citizens' choruses, and from 2003 built a full-spectrum performing arts environment with the Philharmonic Theatre Factory, youth orchestra, youth band and Taipei Philharmonic Opera Studio. It organizes the Taipei International Choral Festival and the Taipei International Choral Competition.

History

In 1988, a group of music-loving entrepreneurs and musicians, seeing that the domestic music environment still had room for pioneering and development and needed more forces to push it forward, established the Taipei Philharmonic Foundation for Culture and Education. At its founding, its main goal was to support the Taipei Philharmonic Chorus; later, to give choral art more diverse performance space, it successively established a children's chorus, chamber chorus, youth chorus, women's chorus and citizens' chorus, gathering choral lovers of all ages. From 2003, to build a full-spectrum performing arts environment, it successively established regular organizations including the Philharmonic Theatre Factory, youth orchestra, youth band and Taipei Philharmonic Opera Studio. Since 1996 it has held the Taipei International Choral Festival, and in 2018 it held the Taipei International Choral Competition.
