Overview

Tainai Kogen Beer is a craft beer brand produced in Tainai City, northern Niigata Prefecture. Its brewing began in 1999 as a project led by the former Kurokawa Village (now Tainai City), which invited a German brewmaster to teach production techniques. The brand is brewed with ultra-soft natural water (hardness 14) drawn from the Iide mountain range. Since 2012 the business has been operated by Niigata Beer Brewing Co., Ltd., which also produces a second brand, Ginyu Bakushu, and sells rice-flour baumkuchen under the name TAINAI KOGEN SWEETS. In October 2023 four of its beers were rebranded under the concept of 'beer to drink while looking up at the sky.'

History

The production of Tainai Kogen Beer began in 1999 as a project led by the former Kurokawa Village (now Tainai City) in northern Niigata Prefecture. A German brewmaster was invited to Japan, and the brewing techniques and recipes have been passed down. In 2012, the business was taken over by Niigata Beer Brewing Co., Ltd., which also produces a second brand, Ginyu Bakushu, and sells rice-flour baumkuchen as TAINAI KOGEN SWEETS. In October 2023, four of the brand's beers were rebranded under the concept of 'beer to drink while looking up at the sky,' inspired by the starry skies of Tainai City.
