Overview

Table Media (styled Table.Media) is a Berlin-based specialist publishing house founded in 2019 by Sebastian Turner, the former publisher of Der Tagesspiegel. The company produces highly specialised, daily briefings delivered online and by email, aimed at a narrow but high-spending audience of decision-makers in politics, business, science and civil society. Its core product is a family of paid "Professional Briefings" — daily newsletters priced at roughly 200 euros per month — supplemented by free formats such as the daily news overview 100 Headlines, the Berlin.Table evening briefing, the twice-weekly CEO.Table executive briefing and the daily Table.Today podcast. The publisher's editorial model, which Turner calls "Deep Journalism" or "domain competence", deliberately targets fields with a large "information asymmetry", where expert demand for information is not adequately served by existing media. Table Media began distributing its China.Table and Europe.Table newsletters in 2021, and between 2021 and 2026 added offerings covering education policy, research policy, international climate policy, foreign and security policy, ESG (sustainability policy), Africa, agricultural policy, space and the non-profit sector. Content is published on the Table Media website and distributed by email, and selected articles also appear in partner media through cooperations including with the Ippen publishing group and Die Zeit. The company employs around 80 staff. Antje Sirleschtov, a former Tagesspiegel journalist, became editor-in-chief in early 2021 and has served alongside Turner as co-publisher since October 2023; Michael Bröcker, who moved from Media Pioneer AG, became editor-in-chief, with Helene Bubrowski, formerly of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, as deputy editor-in-chief from January 2024. Table Media's investigations are frequently picked up by other outlets, and its newsroom has repeatedly been voted among Germany's strongest business and politics desks. In June 2026 the newsroom, together with Martin Blessing — the investment commissioner for Germany appointed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and former Commerzbank chief executive — hosted the "Future at the Table" conference.

History

Table Media was founded in 2019 in Berlin by Sebastian Turner, the former publisher of Der Tagesspiegel. From the outset the company pursued a subscription-first model built around what Turner describes as "Deep Journalism" or "domain competence": rather than competing for mass audiences, it targets fields characterised by a large "information asymmetry", where expert demand for information is not adequately met by existing media offerings. The Süddeutsche Zeitung has characterised its publications as "in-depth information offerings tailored to a very small but high-spending target group" that subscribe to the so-called "Professional Briefings". In 2021 the publisher began distributing the newsletters China.Table and Europe.Table, sent five times a week by email with content also published on the Table Media website. Antje Sirleschtov, a former Tagesspiegel journalist, became editor-in-chief at the beginning of 2021. Between 2021 and 2026 the portfolio expanded to cover education policy, research policy, international climate policy, foreign and security policy, ESG (sustainability policy), Africa, agricultural policy, space and the non-profit sector. Alongside the paid briefings, the company offers the free daily news overview 100 Headlines and the free Berlin.Table evening briefing on the state of the Berlin Republic. In October 2023 Sirleschtov took on the role of co-publisher alongside Turner, and Michael Bröcker became the new editor-in-chief. In January 2024 Helene Bubrowski, previously of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, became deputy editor-in-chief, and the free CEO.Table executive briefing was introduced, completing the offering with specialised business coverage twice a week. Also in January 2024 the company launched Table.Today, a roughly 30-minute daily audio podcast on federal politics, moderated by Helene Bubrowski and Michael Bröcker, who had moved from Media Pioneer AG to Table Media. Bubrowski is set to return to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung as a publisher on 1 January 2027. The company has around 80 employees. Its reporting is frequently picked up by other media — for example on overcapacity of LNG terminals, alleged false statements by Karl Lauterbach, and EU fleet emission limits — and the publisher has been covered by outlets including Meedia, Süddeutsche Zeitung, Kress, Horizont and Politik & Kommunikation. Through media cooperations, including with the Ippen publishing group and Die Zeit, individual articles also appear in other media. The Table.Media newsroom has repeatedly been voted one of the strongest business and politics desks in Germany. In June 2026 the newsroom, together with Martin Blessing — the investment commissioner for Germany appointed by Chancellor Friedrich Merz and former Commerzbank chief executive — hosted the "Future at the Table" conference.
