Overview

Tańce is a Polish independent record label founded in 2020 by Łukasz Warna-Wiesławski, a former co-curator of the Unsound festival. The label focuses on music at the intersection of electronic music and Polish traditional music. Inspired by artists from Africa, Central and South America who incorporate traditional rhythms and melodies into electronic production, Warna-Wiesławski set out to find and promote artists working similarly with Polish folk dances and local instrument sounds. The first releases were strictly dance-oriented, based on British and American club music sounds enriched with samples from instruments such as the burczybas, devil's fiddle, ocarina, and percussion, as well as rhythms like chodzony and oberek. They were aimed primarily at DJs. Tańce also presents instrumental music. All release covers are illustrated by Anna Kaźmierak. The label's discography includes releases by Avtomat, Semprey, Naphta, Ku Ku, Sw@da, Maxim & Niczos, and Oberkas Travel. The album 'Żałość' by Naphta received second place in Gazeta Wyborcza's 2022 album of the year ranking, second prize ex aequo in the Folkowy Fonogram Roku 2022 competition, and a Resident Advisor 'RA Recommends' distinction. The album 'Oberkas Travel' by Oberkas Travel received five stars in Songlines magazine.
