Overview

Télévision de la région lausannoise (TVRL) was a regional Swiss television channel based in Lausanne, in the canton of Vaud. It was created in 1993 and disappeared in 2009, following the unification of several regional channels including ICI TV, the television of the Riviera region, and Nyon TV. The channel broadcast its programming by cable in the city of Lausanne and its surroundings, serving communes such as Lausanne, Belmont-sur-Lausanne, Paudex, Prilly, Pully, Lutry, Renens, Crissier, Écublens, Chavannes-près-Renens, Saint-Sulpice, Bussigny, Romanel-sur-Lausanne, Cheseaux-sur-Lausanne and others. TVRL produced a range of local programming focused on news, culture, sport and civic life. Its output included infoHebdo (later InfoRL), a regional news bulletin; Inforégion, a daily news journal; Sportrégion, covering weekend sport; Temps de parole, a debate programme on current affairs; Par ici!, devoted to culture, discoveries and local personalities; and Lausanne by night, exploring Lausanne's nightlife. It also broadcast sessions of the Grand Conseil Vaudois and of the communal councils of Lausanne, Renens and Prilly, reflecting its public-service role in local democracy. In addition to its own productions, TVRL aired programmes bought or co-produced with other regional broadcasters, such as Confidences, DVD Box, Jonctions Magazine, Limousine, Minute High Tech, Osmose, Préface, Zoom sur les métiers and Line Up TV, as well as coverage of the Montreux Jazz Festival and the Paléo Festival. In 2006 the channel claimed an audience of 47,700 daily viewers and 107,000 weekly viewers out of a potential total of 250,000 viewers. Its editorial team included editor-in-chief Philippe Nicolet until June 1999, then Jean-Pierre Pastori, who was also director of the channel; deputy editors-in-chief Anne-Cathia Marchon and Julien Schekter; production and programmes manager Philippe Rufener; and technical manager François Vittoz. The channel ceased operations in 2009 as part of the consolidation of regional television in French-speaking Switzerland.
