Systeam AG is a German wholesale distributor of information and communication products, based in Ebensfeld in Upper Franconia, Bavaria. The company was founded in 1985 by Michael Mitlacher as an engineering firm, and over the following decades it transformed into a broad-line distributor serving resellers and specialist retailers. Its core business is the distribution of printers, accessories and consumables, alongside IT components such as PCs, notebooks, software and storage media. More recently the portfolio has expanded into AV technology, including large-format displays, digital signage solutions, conference technology and projectors. Systeam was founded in 1985 by Michael Mitlacher as an engineering company (Ingenieursgesellschaft) in Ebensfeld, Upper Franconia, Bavaria. In 1990 the business focus shifted from a system house to wholesale distribution. Five years later, the distribution strategy was concentrated on printers, accessories and consumables. This specialisation laid the foundation for the company's later growth in the printing supplies channel. The company expanded through mergers and acquisitions. In 2001 it merged with DOBTEC GmbH, and in 2004 with Printec Distribution AG of Hainburg. Also in 2004, Systeam opened a branch in Switzerland. In 2011 it expanded into Austria. These moves established Systeam as a cross-border distributor in the German-speaking region. A major step came in June 2018 with the acquisition of Despec Nordic Holding A/S, which extended the company's sales territory to Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland. The group structure as of the 2021 consolidated balance sheet includes Systeam AG as the parent company in Ebensfeld, Systeam Gesellschaft für Computersysteme mbH, RM Immobilienverwaltung GmbH, Printec Distribution AG in Hainburg, Systeam Schweiz GmbH in Näfels, Systeam GmbH in Vienna, and the Despec Nordic entities: Despec Denmark A/S, Despec Sweden AB, Thure Bünger AB, Despec Norway A/S and Despec Finland OY. Systeam has been recognised multiple times with the Bavarian business award 'Bayerns Best 50'. The company continues to operate as a wholesale distributor of printing, IT and AV products, serving trade customers through its online shop and sales team.
