SwellPro was founded in 2014, according to its About page, with the creation of what it describes as the world's first waterproof quadcopter. The stated mission was to address the problem of people losing drones when flying over water or having drones compromised by bad weather. The brand began with aerial filming for outdoor enthusiasts and later expanded into saltwater fishing, search and rescue, environment and wildlife conservation, security surveillance, and drone delivery. SwellPro describes its R&D team as a mix of drone experts and field experts, including in-house engineers who have been designing drones for almost a decade and outside experts who provide input during the design of new drones.
