Overview
Ospedale di Suzzara (Suzzara Hospital) is a hospital located in Suzzara, in the Province of Mantua, Lombardy, Italy. It is a public hospital under private management, a model in which the publicly owned facility is operated by a private concessionaire. The hospital was built in 1854 thanks to a testamentary donation made the previous year by Pietro Montecchi, who was emulated in 1856 by his brother. With the new funds, a new site was opened in 1860, dedicated to the Montecchi Brothers (Fratelli Montecchi). It became a civilian hospital in 1944, and after war damage the public administration made substantial investments; with the birth of the Italian National Health Service it became an ASL (local health authority). In 1997, under the reform of the Lombardy socio-health system, it was placed under the Azienda Ospedaliera Carlo Poma of Mantua but was closed for structural reasons and a temporary facility was opened on the outskirts. In 2004 the hospital was granted for 18 years to the company KOS, which managed and renovated it, opening a rehabilitation department. At that time the hospital had 100 ordinary beds and 30 specifically for rehabilitation. The previous structure was transferred to the municipality of Suzzara. On 1 July 2024 the hospital changed management: the Gruppo Mantova Salus won the 10-year assignment tender, and the hospital's name became Ospedale Montecchi di Suzzara. The former managing company, Ospedale di Suzzara s.p.a., announced that from 1 July 2024 it no longer manages the hospital, thanking operators and patients for twenty years of activity, and directed users to the new website ospedalemontecchi.it and the Montecchi hospital switchboard. The hospital continues to operate under the management of Ospedale F.lli Montecchi S.r.l.
