History
Sun World International is a global fruit variety development and licensing company. It pioneered seedless grape variety development and licensing and launched its fruit genetics program more than 30 years ago. Beginning in the 1980s, Sun World introduced new, proprietary, branded fruits and vegetables to the produce industry. Sun World built its early reputation through its portfolio of table grapes, which became globally known for superior quality and consistent in-the-field success. Over time it expanded its table grape range across grape color families and specialty brands. It then expanded into stone fruit, deploying considerable resources for a decade or more to build a portfolio of stone fruit genetics, particularly plums (Black Diamond, Red Diamond), peaches (Amber Crest) and nectarines (Super Star). After achieving scale with table grapes and stone fruit, Sun World began concentrating on adjacent crops beginning in 2014, including mangoes. In 2023, Sun World accelerated its mango program through the acquisition of the license to the Kankun variety mango. In 2024, Sun World acquired Biogold, which managed rights to mango varieties developed by third-party breeders, allowing Sun World to offer customers options from the world's largest collection of mango genetics.
