Overview

Sun Street HAMAKITA (サンストリート浜北) is a large shopping center located in Hirguchi, Hamana-ku, Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. It opened in the summer of 2007 within the Hirguchi land readjustment project area, at the intersection of National Route 152 and Shizuoka Prefectural Route 391 (Hosoe-Hamakita Line). The facility was developed by Seiyu and consists of a main building and several separate structures. The main building houses a Mega Center Trial store, a food court, specialty shops, and a TOHO Cinemas multiplex. Separate buildings accommodate tenants such as JAMES (auto and motorcycle goods), Colore, Netz Toyota Shizuoka, and Cosmo Oil. The center serves a wide range of generations and is a key retail destination in the Hamakita area. Ownership and management have evolved over time. Seiyu constructed the facility and entrusted it to Asia Pacific Land Japan Limited (APL), a real estate investment advisory firm, which incorporated it into a fund. APL then subcontracted building management and operations to Time Create, a company that also operated Sun Street Kameido in Koto, Tokyo. As of 2026, building management and operations are handled by Sojitz Commercial Development, part of the Sojitz Group. The center opened in phases: Seiyu and O.I.C (food court) opened on July 4, 2007; the grand opening of the specialty store area and the hot spring facility followed on July 26, 2007; and TOHO Cinemas Sun Street Hamakita opened on August 10, 2007. The Seiyu Hamakita store, the core tenant, operated from July 4, 2007, until its closure on January 31, 2026. It was a supercenter-format experimental store for Seiyu and was the largest single-floor store in Japan at the time. On April 27, 2017, it was renovated into a composite store with Home Center Valor. After Seiyu's closure, Mega Center Trial Hamakita opened on April 29, 2026, in the former Seiyu space, and Yamada Denki Techland Sun Street Hamakita opened on June 26, 2026, in part of the former Seiyu space. Home Center Valor Hamamatsu Hamakita, which opened on April 27, 2017, closed on November 3, 2025. The facility offers approximately 2,500 parking spaces. Its image song is "Taiyou no Shita de" by Oku Hanako, which was used in some of the opening commercials. TOHO Cinemas Sun Street Hamakita has 9 screens and 1,941 seats (including 18 wheelchair spaces). The opening image character was Masami Nagasawa, who is from Iwata, a city adjacent to Hamamatsu. The center is accessible by train (about a 25-minute walk west from Hamakita Station on the Enshu Railway) and by bus (Enshu Bus Route 61 Uchino-dai Line from Hamamatsu Station Bus Terminal Platform 12).

History

Sun Street HAMAKITA opened in the summer of 2007 in the Hirguchi land readjustment project area in what was then Hamakita Ward, Hamamatsu City (now Hamana Ward). The facility was developed by Seiyu and built at the intersection of National Route 152 and Shizuoka Prefectural Route 391 (Hosoe-Hamakita Line). It consists of a main building and several separate structures. The main building's south side houses Mega Center Trial, the middle section contains a food court, and the north side features specialty shops and the TOHO Cinemas multiplex. Separate buildings accommodate JAMES, Colore, Netz Toyota Shizuoka, and Cosmo Oil, each operating as "Sun Street Hamakita store" (Cosmo Oil as a service station). The opening was phased: on July 4, 2007, Seiyu and O.I.C (food court) opened ahead of the rest; on July 26, 2007, the grand opening took place with the specialty store area and the hot spring facility; and on August 10, 2007, TOHO Cinemas Sun Street Hamakita opened. It also houses the second store of Trial's apparel private brand "RIALT." Other tenants include Yamada Denki Techland, Yajimaya Bookstore, Yakuishi Kanshobo Kaze to Tsuki (natural hot spring), The Daiso, TOHO Cinemas, JAMES, and Netz Toyota Shizuoka. The facility offers approximately 2,500 parking spaces. Its image song is "Taiyou no Shita de" by Oku Hanako, used in some of the opening commercials.
