It is managed and operated together with the underground shopping mall Okayama Ichibangai by Sanyo SC Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of West Japan Railway Company (JR West). History

Sun Station Terrace Okayama is a station-front commercial facility located inside JR Okayama Station in Kita-ku, Okayama City, Okayama Prefecture, Japan. It is commonly known as "Sanste Okayama." The facility is managed and operated together with the underground shopping mall Okayama Ichibangai by Sanyo SC Development Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The complex occupies the first and second floors of the concourse under the Sanyo Shinkansen elevated tracks, the southern half of the bridge station building, and the second through fifth floors of the Okayama Station West Building. It is divided into the North Building, South Building, and West Building, with the North Building connected to a dedicated "Sanste Ticket Gate." Tenants include souvenir shops, restaurants, bookstores, clothing stores, general merchandise shops, and a supermarket. Since the opening of the Sanyo Shinkansen in 1972, the long concourse inside Okayama Station had been lined with souvenir shops, restaurants, and kiosks targeting travelers and commuters, but only partial renovations were carried out and the facilities became significantly outdated. In conjunction with station improvement and bridge station construction that began in 2005, the entire area including the restaurant district "Peach Plaza" was fully renovated. The South Building opened on October 15, 2006, and the North Building opened on August 23, 2007. Many tenants that had been in the station before the renovation moved to new locations and continued operating. On April 1, 2009, the operating company Sanyo Station Development Co., Ltd. merged with Okayama Station Center Co., Ltd., which operated Okayama Ichibangai. Okayama Station Center was the surviving company and changed its name to Sanyo SC Co., Ltd., enabling integrated management and operation. On October 3, 2012, the West Building opened on the second through fifth floors of the 14-story Okayama Station West Building constructed at the west exit of Okayama Station. A total of 22 stores opened, including 14 that were first-time entrants in Okayama Prefecture (some were first in the entire Chugoku and Shikoku regions). On January 11, 2016, the Sanste Okayama West Building temporarily closed. In spring 2016, Sanste Okayama West Building reopened with GU as the core tenant. On December 28, 2016, new applications for the Okayama Ichibangai/Sanste Okayama First Card were discontinued. On April 1, 2017, the Okayama Ichibangai/Sanste Okayama/Kurashiki J-WEST Card debuted. From May 6, 2019, renovation work began on the Sanste Okayama South Building, and part of Sanfesta Okayama closed. On March 13, 2020, the Sanste Okayama South Building (Phase 1) renewal opened, and the rest area (Sanste Terrace) opened under the Shinkansen elevated tracks. From March 22, 2020, renovation work began on the Sanste Okayama South Building (bridge east area) and North Building, and Sanfesta Okayama closed completely. On May 18, 2020, the Sanste Okayama South Building (Phase 2) renewal opened (bridge east area). On September 16, 2020, the Sanste Okayama North Building (Phase 3) renewal opened. On February 28, 2023, new applications for the Okayama Ichibangai/Sanste Okayama/Kurashiki J-WEST Card were discontinued. On April 10, 2023, the Okayama Ichibangai/Sanste Members Card was launched. From May 25, 2026, some stores in the bridge west area closed for renovation and relocated to Okayama Ichibangai and other locations. On September 18, 2026, about 10 stores are scheduled to newly open and the area will have a renewal opening, and Sanste Terrace will be renewed.
