History
The company was founded in 1934 in Berlin by Hans Vogt, the inventor of the high-frequency coil with magnetic core, as Vogt & Co. It produced coil components for radio devices and radios. During World War II, the company headquarters was relocated to Obernzell. In 1950, the company began manufacturing soft magnetic coil cores from ferrite. In 1980, Vogt & Co. achieved its highest sales with components for power supplies of color television sets. In 1984, it was renamed VOGT electronic AG, and two years later, the first issue of shares followed. The company then developed components for electronic ballasts for lighting technology. In 1991, it took over the EMS plant in Lehesten. The production of sensor coils and immobilizers as part of automotive electronics was increased. In 1997, VOGT electronic AG expanded to Slovenia, Romania, Mexico, the USA, and China. In 2006, the Japanese SUMIDA Corporation became the main shareholder of VOGT electronic. Three years later, a domination agreement was concluded, the stock exchange listing of VOGT electronic AG was discontinued (delisting), and the company was renamed SUMIDA AG. Today, Sumida AG is part of the Sumida Group, a global manufacturer of inductive components and modules. The parent company, SUMIDA Corporation, is based in Tokyo and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under TSE Code 6817.
