History

Suirinsha Ltd. was founded in July 2020 by Ichiro Shinohara, who had previously worked at a general contractor and then as an editor at Gentosha and Bungeishunju, where he was responsible for hits such as Maiko Seo's 'Soshite, Baton wa Watasareta' and Natsuko Miyashita's 'Hitsuji to Hagane no Mori'. The company is headquartered in Kanda-Jinbocho, Tokyo. In October 2020, it published its first book, Maiko Seo's 'Yoake no Subete', which sold 300,000 copies combined in hardcover and paperback. Initially, sales and distribution were outsourced to Bungeishunju, but in December 2024, with the publication of Seo's 'Sonna Toki wa Shoten ni Douzo', Suirinsha began self-distribution. In 2022, the company co-founded the 'Hajimete no' Bungeibu program with Sony Music Entertainment to discover and nurture new literary talent. In July 2025, it published the novelization of the film '8-ban Deguchi' by Genki Kawamura, with an initial print run of 100,000 copies, followed by a reprint of 15,000 copies on the same day. In 2026, two of its titles were nominated for the 23rd Booksellers Award, and it took over the publication of 'Design no Hikidashi' from Graphic-sha.
