History
According to the Solb Misr history page, in 2006 LITAT Group, described as a leading Lebanese group mainly engaged in worldwide steel manufacturing, trade and logistics with a focus on the MENA region, acquired Suez Steel Company, a melt shop in Egypt, and the new owners set out to transform it into an integrated steel complex with a capacity of 2,000,000 MT per annum by 2012. In 2007 the group acquired Misr National Steel, an Egyptian steel rolling mill with an annual production capacity of 360,000 MT of rebars, and the Egyptian Company for Iron and Steel Products (Al Masriyah for steel products), an Egyptian steel rolling mill with an annual production capacity of 250,000 MT of rebars. In 2008 Solb Misr (previously Red Sea Steel) was established as a holding company owning all the acquired Egyptian plants, and the transformation of the plants into an integrated steel complex began. In 2009 two projects were commissioned at Suez Steel Company: Rolling Mill I with a capacity of 480,000 MT and the revamp of the existing SMP, which increased the total nominal production capacity of SSC from 600,000 MT per annum to 800,000 MT per annum. In 2011 Rolling Mill II started at Suez Steel Company with a capacity of 450,000 MT per annum. In 2013 the Direct Reduction Plant and Steel Making plant were commissioned at Suez Steel Company, with an ultimate production capacity of 2,000,000 MT of steel per annum. In 2016 there was a strategic sale of Misr National Steel and the Egyptian Company for Iron and Steel Products. In 2018 the Cut & Bend Rolling Mill 3 Division was launched, producing shapes and stirrups in the required lengths and bent shapes, and in 2019 Rolling Mill 3 was inaugurated.
