History

Subur Tiasa Holdings Berhad was founded in 1988 by Tan Sri Datuk Sir Tiong Hiew King as Subur Tiasa Plywood in Sibu, Sarawak, with an initial paid-up capital of RM125.7 million. During its founding years from 1988 to 1994, the company focused on plywood and veneer manufacturing and export, before venturing into sawn timber and laminating board manufacturing. Sawmills and a power generating plant were set up in the Tanjung Manis Timber processing zone. Plywood and sawn timber production remain principal activities. The period from 1995 to 2000 was an era of accelerated growth after its subsidiary Subur Tiasa Particleboard Sdn. Bhd. was officiated in 1994. With particleboard business and upstream logging activities taking off, Subur Tiasa was listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad in 1997. In 2001, the company underwent enormous expansion, participating and investing in tree planting and reforestation projects. Subur Tiasa states that its reforestation project compensates for its logging practices by 30 times, and maximizing the usage of natural resources has become its core mission. The group has since diversified into oil palm operations through numerous subsidiaries and continues to operate integrated timber and oil palm businesses.
