Subalpina Mathesis

Subalpina Mathesis (Associazione Subalpina Mathesis) is an Italian association of mathematics teachers based in Turin. It is a local branch of the broader Mathesis association, which was founded in the late 19th century as the first Italian association of mathematics teachers. The association is dedicated to the promotion of mathematics education, the history of mathematics teaching, and the professional development of mathematics teachers. It organizes conferences, seminars, workshops, and competitions, and publishes materials related to the history of mathematics education in Italy. The association is also involved in awarding prizes such as the Fubini Prize and the Peano Prize. Its website provides resources for teachers and historians, including documents on the history of mathematics teaching in Italy from the Casati Law of 1859 to the Gentile Reform of 1923. The association is registered as an APS (Associazione di Promozione Sociale) and has its office at the Department of Mathematics, Via Carlo Alberto 10, Turin.

The Associazione Subalpina Mathesis is a local section of Mathesis, the first Italian association of mathematics teachers. Mathesis was founded in the late 19th century, with its birth certificate recorded by Rodolfo Bettazzi, who, along with Aurelio Lugli and Francesco Giudice, initiated its foundation. The association was part of a cultural climate particularly sensitive to the educational and cultural needs in mathematics. The Subalpina Mathesis, based in Turin, continues this legacy by organizing activities such as conferences, seminars, and workshops, and by maintaining an archive of documents related to the history of mathematics teaching in Italy. It awards the Fubini Prize and the Peano Prize, and has been involved in projects like Math XX and mathematics internships for schools. The association is registered as an APS (Associazione di Promozione Sociale) and has its office at the Department of Mathematics, Via Carlo Alberto 10, Turin.
