Overview
Studio Antelope is an independent film, series, and advertising production house based in Jakarta, Indonesia. It was founded on 1 June 2011 by director and screenwriter Jason Iskandar together with producer Florence Giovani, originally as a film community of students who loved cinema. In its early years the group focused on independent short films screened at festivals, including Territorial Pissings (Best Short Film at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival), Tanya Jawab (nominated for Best Short Film at the Indonesian Film Festival), and Seserahan (Best Short Film at the French Cinema Festival). All of these shorts were written and directed by Jason Iskandar. In early 2015 Studio Antelope was formally incorporated as a limited company under the name PT Studio Antelope Indonesia. From then on it expanded into digital advertising and web series for brands, producing content for clients such as Yamaha, CloseUp, Cornetto, Shopee, and Pepsodent, as well as web series including Hijab Love Story 2, Hijab Love Story 3, and Prince Darling. It continued to make independent shorts during this period, among them Langit Masih Gemuruh (nominated for Best Short Film at the Singapore International Film Festival), Balik Jakarta, Elegi Melodi (nominated for Best Short Film at the Indonesian Film Festival), and Dan Kembali Bermimpi (Official Selection at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival). In August 2020 the studio announced its first feature film, Akhirat: A Love Story, produced together with BASE Entertainment and starring Adipati Dolken and Della Dartyan. Written and directed by Jason Iskandar and produced by Florence Giovani, Shanty Harmayn, Aoura Lovenson Chandra, and Tanya Yuson, the film's shoot was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic before resuming in August 2020 and wrapping in late September 2020; it was released in 2021 and is available on Netflix. The studio's current slate includes the original series Ganteng-Ganteng Genteng, CinLock: Love, Camera, Action!, and Drama Ratu Drama, the feature Akhirat: A Love Story, the short film Dengarlah Nyanyian Ping-Pong, and in-development titles such as Wishing for More, First Breath After Coma, and Harapan Gadis Harapan. Studio Antelope describes itself as a home for filmmakers with distinct voices and maintains an online community through its website and social media.
History
Studio Antelope was first formed on 1 June 2011 as a film community of students who loved cinema, watching, learning, arguing, and making films together. In its first years (2011–2014) it focused on producing independent short films for festival circuits. Among these early shorts were Territorial Pissings, which won Best Short Film at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival; Tanya Jawab, which was nominated for Best Short Film at the Indonesian Film Festival; and Seserahan, which won Best Short Film at the French Cinema Festival. All were written and directed by Jason Iskandar. In early 2015 the community was formalized as a limited company, PT Studio Antelope Indonesia. From that point the studio began producing digital advertising and web series for brands, working with clients such as Yamaha, CloseUp, Cornetto, Shopee, and Pepsodent, and producing web series including Hijab Love Story 2, Hijab Love Story 3, and Prince Darling. It continued its independent short film work with titles such as Langit Masih Gemuruh (nominated for Best Short Film at the Singapore International Film Festival), Balik Jakarta, Elegi Melodi (nominated for Best Short Film at the Indonesian Film Festival), and Dan Kembali Bermimpi (Official Selection at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival). In August 2020 Studio Antelope announced its first feature film, Akhirat: A Love Story, produced in collaboration with BASE Entertainment and starring Adipati Dolken and Della Dartyan.
