Overview

Stranded Rekords is a Swedish record label founded in 1979 by Klas Lunding and Anders Tapper. It grew out of Lunding's punk and new wave fanzine Stranded, which he had started in Stockholm in 1978. The label's first releases in 1980 were the EP Live På Musikverket, featuring seven punk bands, and I Köket Desperat by the experimental punk and industrial band Plast. Over the following years Stranded issued records by artists such as Incest Brothers, Travolta Kids, Ratata, Lustans Lakejer, Reeperbahn, Niels Jensen, N-Liners, Di Leva, Zzzang Tumb, Mockba Music and Viva!. Its motto was "style, beauty and elegance". In 1982 Polar Music, through Marie and Stikkan Anderson, bought into the company, took full control in 1984 and shut it down in 1986. In 2010 the label was revived as part of Universal Music, again run by Klas Lunding together with Ismail Samie. The revived label has signed artists including Håkan Hellström, Anna Järvinen, Graveyard, Jay-Jay Johanson, Ram Di Dam and Killabite. The company name uses a Swedish spelling of the English word "records" — rekords with a "K" — though it has occasionally been spelled with a "C", for example on the label of Lustans Lakejer's 1982 LP En plats i solen. The current website uses the address www.strandedrecords.se. Several other small labels have also called themselves Stranded Records but have no connection to the Swedish company.

History

Stranded Rekords was founded in 1979 by Klas Lunding and Anders Tapper as a continuation of the fanzine Stranded, which Lunding had started in Stockholm in 1978 to write about punk and new wave. The label's first releases came in 1980: the EP Live På Musikverket, featuring seven punk bands, and I Köket Desperat by the experimental punk and industrial band Plast. During the early 1980s Stranded became a home for Swedish new wave and synth-pop, issuing records by Incest Brothers, Travolta Kids, Ratata, Lustans Lakejer, Reeperbahn, Niels Jensen, N-Liners, Di Leva, Zzzang Tumb, Mockba Music and Viva!, among others. Its motto was "style, beauty and elegance". In 1982 Polar Music, through Marie and Stikkan Anderson, bought into the company; by 1984 Polar had taken full control, and in 1986 the label was shut down. In 2010 Stranded was revived as part of Universal Music, again run by Klas Lunding together with Ismail Samie. The new incarnation has signed artists including Håkan Hellström, Anna Järvinen, Graveyard, Jay-Jay Johanson, Ram Di Dam and Killabite, and has released albums such as Holograms' Forever. The label's name uses a Swedish spelling of the English word "records" — rekords with a "K" — though it has occasionally been spelled with a "C", for example on the label of Lustans Lakejer's 1982 LP En plats i solen. The current website uses the address www.strandedrecords.se. Several other small labels have also called themselves Stranded Records but have no connection to the Swedish company.
