Overview

Stolt AS is a Norwegian human resources company that delivers recruitment, staffing and HR outsourcing services. It was established in 2005 by brothers Brede and Heine Aardalen under the name Jobz, and changed its name to Stolt in April 2016. The company is headquartered at Helsfyr in Oslo and has offices in Oslo, Fredrikstad, Trondheim and Bodø. Stolt was among the first companies in Norway to offer HR outsourcing, marketed under the names HR-Ressurs and Bemanningsrekruttering, the latter specifically targeting the construction and civil engineering industry. The company also operates subsidiaries Stolt:IT (IT services) and Stolt Security (security and emergency preparedness), with Heine Aardalen serving as chairman of both. Stolt has been a main sponsor of Vålerenga Ishockey since 2017. In December 2020, the company's Bemanningsrekruttering service was discussed in a Norwegian parliamentary debate, where it was criticized by Rødt leader Bjørnar Moxnes as a model to circumvent tightened temporary agency work regulations in the construction industry; Heine Aardalen responded that the service is not a staffing service but simplifies hiring for small and medium-sized businesses. The company continues to operate as a private Norwegian HR firm.

History

Stolt AS was established in 2005 by brothers Brede and Heine Aardalen under the name Jobz. Brede Aardalen has a background in philosophy from Lund University and had experience as a demolition worker and consultant in a staffing agency. Heine Aardalen studied psychology at the University of Oslo and previously worked as a process manager at the County Social Security Office, now part of NAV. In April 2016, the company changed its name from Jobz to Stolt. Today, Stolt provides recruitment and operational HR services in addition to staffing. It was among the first companies in Norway to offer HR outsourcing, marketed under the names HR-Ressurs and Bemanningsrekruttering, the latter specifically targeting the construction and civil engineering industry. The company has offices in Oslo, Fredrikstad, Trondheim and Bodø, with its headquarters at Helsfyr in Oslo. Subsidiaries include IT company Stolt:IT and security and emergency preparedness company Stolt Security, with Heine Aardalen as chairman of both. Since 2017, Stolt has been one of the main sponsors of Vålerenga Ishockey. In December 2020, during a parliamentary debate, Rødt leader Bjørnar Moxnes described Bemanningsrekruttering as an 'innleiemodell' (hiring model) and an example of 'boundless creativity from the staffing industry – to circumvent tightened temporary agency work rules in the construction industry.' Heine Aardalen responded that Bemanningsrekruttering is not a staffing service but simplifies hiring for small and medium-sized businesses lacking sufficient resources for recruitment and personnel administration. Even Hagelien of NHO Service og Handel stated that the arrangement, as they understood it, does not constitute a circumvention of the rules for temporary agency work, while Steinar Krogstad, deputy leader of Fellesforbundet, disagreed.
