Overview

The Stiftung für Kunst und Baukultur Britta und Ulrich Findeisen is a German non-profit foundation based in Cologne and administered from Grevenbroich-Hemmerden in North Rhine-Westphalia. It was established in July 2007 by the architect, urban planner and university professor Ulrich Findeisen and his wife, the landscape and garden architect Britta Findeisen (née Wagenknecht). The foundation is dedicated to the promotion of the built environment, artistic and design education, monument preservation, art and architectural culture. It particularly supports projects that have received little attention because of their period of origin, genre or positioning relative to their creators. The foundation operates several facilities, including the Forum, the CUBITY Atelierhaus and the Penthouse. Its CUBITY Atelierhaus in Merzenich, located near the Hambach open-cast mine in the Rhenish lignite mining district, was created as an unusual space for research, teaching, education and events on future topics of urban and landscape planning and regional development in the context of structural change. The foundation also awards a Master Prize for Architectural History and supports the Master Prize of the Faculty of Architecture at TH Köln with a total of 3,000 euros. It maintains a collection, including the Britta Findeisen Collection, and organizes exhibitions, excursions and competitions such as the student competition 'Bridging the Gap' for the transformation of the bridgehead of the first Hammer railway bridge. The foundation is registered in the Foundation Register of North Rhine-Westphalia. Its administration is located at Landstraße 18, 41516 Grevenbroich-Hemmerden. Ulrich Findeisen died in December 2020; the foundation continues his and Britta Findeisen's commitment to architecture and building culture.
