Overview

Stiftelsen Kristian Gerhard Jebsen is a Norwegian non-profit foundation created in 2009 to honour the memory of Kristian Gerhard Jebsen and his contributions to Norwegian and international shipping and business. The foundation was initiated and donated by Aud Jebsen together with her three sons. At its establishment, the foundation was intended to operate for 30 years. Its capital base at the end of 2024 was approximately 550 million Norwegian kroner. The foundation has a broad charitable purpose. In its early years it focused mainly on supporting medical research and maritime/marine research, aiming to strengthen free and independent Norwegian research and to help build strong international research environments. It later expanded into the cultural field, adopting its first cultural initiative in autumn 2011. A common denominator across its engagements is a goal to help realise projects at an international top level. In medical research, the foundation has established 26 K.G. Jebsen centres for medical research in cooperation with Norwegian universities and university hospitals. As part of its translational medicine effort, the K.G. Jebsen Academy for Young Researchers was established in spring 2021. The foundation also supports selected projects in classical music through its culture programme, and is engaged in the maritime and marine field. The foundation does not accept unsolicited applications; it contacts potential partners directly to ensure its funds are used effectively on projects that align with its purpose and the strategies and priorities of its partners. It is headquartered in Bergen, Norway.
