Overview

Stamp (stylized as STAMP) is a Spanish financial technology company specializing in tax-free shopping management and the integration of alternative payment methods for the retail sector. Founded in 2023 by Abel Navajas (current CEO), Álvaro Fontaneda, Javier Castrillo and Sebastián Pérez, the company set out to fix structural inefficiencies in the traditional tourist tax-refund system. Instead of shoppers paying VAT at the store and claiming a refund later — a process often eroded by intermediary fees — Stamp removes VAT directly at checkout, legally recording the transaction as an export. The company operates a B2B2C model, charging retailers a validation fee or offering a platform format for large fashion and luxury brands. Stamp's platform combines two main solutions: Real Tax Free, which turns tax free into an immediate purchase incentive, and Growth, which helps retailers attract, engage and convert high-value international shoppers through local discovery, activation and payment experiences, including Asian payment methods. The company has offices in Madrid, Milan and Valencia, and established Italy as its first major market, activating its service in more than 1,500 merchants through integration with the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency's Otello 2.0 digital system. It later expanded into Spain, focusing on Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia, and began moving into Portugal in collaboration with Unicorn Factory Lisboa. Stamp has gained recognition in the Spanish startup ecosystem. In December 2024 it was named best fintech in Spain at the Expansión StartUp Awards. In February 2025 it was selected for Santander X100, and it was integrated by the accelerators Lanzadera and Wayra. In June 2025 it won first place in the fifth edition of the Fashion StartUp Contest organized by Mango StartUp Studio. By that period the platform reported having managed more than €14 million in VAT for 40,000 travelers since its founding. In October 2025 it partnered with Alipay+ and WeChat Pay in Spain, facilitating QR code payments at merchants such as Casa Batlló, Primor and Galería Canalejas. In November 2025 it developed, with the Community of Madrid and the Next Generation fund, a decentralized blockchain-based infrastructure to interconnect EU customs and automate VAT refund data validation. In January 2026 Stamp closed a €4 million funding round with participation from Belgian footballer Thibaut Courtois and investment funds Dozen, Ebisu and Barça Innovation Hub, among others. In March 2026 it took part in the official pavilion of the 4YFN event during Mobile World Congress Barcelona and joined the BME Pre-Market Environment, a program preparing companies for a stock exchange listing. In May 2026 it obtained B Corp certification with a score of 93.4, becoming the first tax-free-focused fintech to join the registry, and was ranked 23rd in the Sifted 100 Southern Europe list. In June 2026 it won the Iberian edition of the Mastercard For Fintechs contest. According to CEO Abel Navajas, the company plans to enter the German and French markets in 2027.

History

Stamp was founded in 2023 by Abel Navajas (current CEO), Álvaro Fontaneda, Javier Castrillo and Sebastián Pérez after identifying structural inefficiencies in the traditional tax refund system for tourists from outside the European Union. Navajas had previously worked at the Swiss tax-free company Global Blue and had served as founder and CEO of Woonivers. In its early years, the company established Italy as its main market, activating its service in more than 1,500 merchants through integration with the Italian Customs and Monopolies Agency's Otello 2.0 digital system. In December 2024, Stamp was recognized as the best fintech in Spain at the Expansión StartUp Awards, organized by the newspaper Expansión. In February 2025, the company was selected by Santander X100, a global community of entrepreneurial projects created by Banco Santander. After being integrated by the accelerators Lanzadera and Wayra, it began operations in Spain in May of the same year, focusing on Barcelona, Madrid and Valencia. In June it won first place in the fifth edition of the Fashion StartUp Contest, a competition developed by Mango StartUp Studio specialized in the fashion retail sector. In the same period, the platform reported that since its founding it had managed more than €14 million in VAT corresponding to a total of 40,000 travelers. Amid the recovery of traveler flows from China, which reached pre-COVID-19 pandemic levels in October 2025, Stamp partnered with Alipay+ and WeChat Pay in Spain. The company facilitated the adoption of these payment methods via QR codes at merchants such as Casa Batlló, Primor and Galería Canalejas. Also in October, it began expanding its operations to the Portuguese market in collaboration with Unicorn Factory Lisboa. In November, the company developed, in collaboration with the Community of Madrid and the Next Generation fund, a decentralized blockchain-based infrastructure to interconnect European Union customs, with the aim of automating data validation in VAT refund procedures for international travelers. The company was a finalist in entrepreneurship competitions organized by Alhambra Venture, South Summit Madrid and Quarter 5 during 2025. In January 2026, Stamp closed a €4 million funding round with the participation of Belgian footballer Thibaut Courtois and investment funds Dozen, Ebisu and Barça Innovation Hub (the investment vehicle of FC Barcelona), among others. According to Expansión, the capital raised was used to expand operations to other markets and develop new products, including an AI-based feature. In March of the same year, the company was part of the official pavilion of the 4YFN technology event during Mobile World Congress Barcelona, and joined the Pre-Market Environment of Bolsas y Mercados Españoles (BME), a preparation program oriented toward an IPO. On April 15, the company organized an event in Barcelona that brought together executives from the retail, luxury and technology sectors to analyze the impact of international tourism on the Spanish market. The event had the support of entities such as Casa Batlló, Alipay, WeChat and FC Barcelona Innovation Hub. In May, Stamp obtained international B Corp certification granted by the non-profit organization B Lab after achieving a score of 93.4 points in the B Impact system. This made it the first fintech specialized in tax free to enter this registry. The same month it was included in 23rd place in the Sifted 100 Southern Europe ranking, which recognizes the fastest-growing startups in 2026. In June, the newspaper El País announced the arrival of Carlos Ortiz as chief operations officer and Pablo Campos as chief commercial officer. That month, the company won first place in the Iberian edition of the Mastercard For Fintechs contest. With this result, it secured a place to represent the peninsula in the European final of the competition, scheduled to be held in Italy at the end of 2026. According to Navajas, the company plans to enter the German and French markets in 2027.
