Overview

Spolu s vámi, z. ú. is a Czech social enterprise founded and operated by blind and partially sighted people. Its mission is to build a friendlier, more open and more accessible world by sharing the knowledge, experience and skills of people with visual impairments where they are most needed. The organisation's core focus is awareness-raising about communication with people with visual disabilities and about the accessibility of spaces and services. It runs fun workshops for children as well as professional seminars for public administration, companies and vocational schools. The enterprise traces its origins to 2017, when a team of blind and partially sighted people began operating a service for seniors called Návštěvy POTMĚ (Visits in the Dark) under the umbrella of the Czech Radio Foundation (Nadační fond Českého rozhlasu). The aim was twofold: to help lonely seniors and to create new, meaningful jobs for blind and partially sighted people. In 2019 the team became independent by establishing a registered institute (zapsaný ústav), and since then it has added awareness activities to its senior service, introducing the wider public to the specifics of life with visual impairment. Today Spolu s vámi offers a portfolio of services: entertaining workshops for children that teach them about compensatory aids for the blind, walking with a white cane and how guide dogs work; professional seminars for offices, companies and other institutions that want to make their services accessible to visually disadvantaged clients and customers; and participation in events such as health days and festivals, where visitors learn that people with visual impairments are a full part of society. The organisation is based in the Czech Republic and operates primarily on the Czech market.

History

Spolu s vámi, z. ú. began in 2017 as a project under the Czech Radio Foundation (Nadační fond Českého rozhlasu). A team of blind and partially sighted people launched a service for seniors called Návštěvy POTMĚ (Visits in the Dark), with the dual goal of alleviating loneliness among seniors and creating meaningful employment for people with visual impairments. In 2019 the team became independent by founding a registered institute (zapsaný ústav), which allowed it to expand its activities beyond the senior service. Since then, the organisation has added awareness-raising activities aimed at the general public, including interactive workshops for children and professional seminars for public administration, companies and vocational schools. These activities focus on communication with people with visual impairments and on making spaces and services accessible. The enterprise also participates in public events such as health days and festivals to promote the full inclusion of people with visual impairments in society.
