Overview

Spætt Film is a Norwegian film production company based in Trondheim. It was established in 2006 by Magnus Skatvold under the name Spætt Media, initially as a sole proprietorship. In 2012 a limited company (aksjeselskap) with the same name was created, and Henrik Flatås and Håvard Wettland Gossé joined as co-owners. In 2014 the company changed its name to Spætt Film. The company originally produced commercial films for Norwegian clients and specialised in digital cinema advertising. From 2012 it established a new department for short films and documentaries. Its first short film was Fallet, directed by Andreas Thaulow and released in 2014. The same year it released Foul, directed by Rune Denstad Langlo, which was nominated for the Amanda Award for Best Short Film. The company's first documentary was Psykonauten from 2015, directed by Jon Vatne. After these projects Spætt Film produced a long series of documentaries, short films and commercials for Norwegian and international audiences. In 2023 it released its first feature film, Norwegian Dream, which opened the Kosmorama Film Festival and was nominated for three Amanda Awards. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting financial difficulties, the company struggled economically. In August 2023 the original limited company, by then named Film og sånn AS, was declared bankrupt. Afterwards Henrik Flatås, Isak Jensen Weie and Aleksander Fremstad Askim started a new limited company called Spætt AS, which continues to produce commercial films. The brand Spætt Film thus continues through the successor entity Spætt AS, while the original legal entity is defunct.
