Overview
Sozialwerk.Bund (Sozialwerk der Inneren Verwaltung des Bundes e.V.) is a German non-profit association (gemeinnütziger Verein) that, according to its own website, has contributed for over 60 years to reconciling family and career. It offers a broad range of affordable recreation options for families and adults in Germany and abroad, holiday camps for children and young people as well as people with disabilities, and courses and mother/father-child cures. The association was founded on 18 November 1960 with the election of its first main board and chairman Bruno Köhler, and was entered in the register of associations on 1 December 1961.
History
The association was founded on 18 November 1960, when its first main board was elected with Bruno Köhler as chairman; the membership fee was 1 DM. In spring 1961 the first holiday catalogue appeared under the title 'Urlaub und Erholung mit dem Sozialwerk', offering members contract houses in holiday and recreation regions in Germany as well as the association's own recreation homes already run by the social services of the Bundeswehr and the finance administration. Since few members owned a car at the time, travel to the holiday destinations was offered by (special) railway trains at prices up to 50% cheaper. Members could also book holidays with a 5% member bonus at Alpen-See-Reisen GmbH or Globus-Reisen GmbH. In the summer holidays of 1961 the Sozialwerk carried out its first measures using six places from the place contingent of other social services: cures at 'Schloß Niederfels' near Marquartstein / Obb with four places and at the children's recreation home Rechtis / Allgäu with two places for children from North Rhine-Westphalia. By the end of 1961 a further 32 children from Berlin, Hesse and Lower Saxony took part in cures in the high mountains within the framework of its own recreation welfare. On 1 December 1961 the association was entered in the register of associations. In August 1962 the first own recreation facility was established together with the Bundeswehrsozialwerk on the campsite in Brielle / Netherlands on the North Sea coast.
