Overview
The Southern Railway was a British railway company formed in 1923, one of the 'Big Four' under the Railways Act 1921. Its network covered London, southern and southeastern England, known for its electrified lines and commuter services. In 1948, it became the Southern Region of British Railways after nationalisation.
