History

The Software Liberty Association Taiwan was founded on 8 April 2001, with the association's own account stating that it originated from an aspiration dated 9 June 2000. It describes itself as having been the first, and at one time the only, legal-entity representative of the free software field in Taiwan. In 2003 the OSSACC program was established, commissioned by the Ministry of Education and undertaken by the association, to bring free software and open-source digital teaching materials into schools; it created the ezgo free software experience disc. The association also worked to open national skills certification examinations to free software, and from 2015, when the National Development Council began promoting the Open Document Format (ODF), the association contributed to ODF adoption in Taiwan.
