Sodiê Doces

Sodiê Doces is a Brazilian-based specialized chain of cake shops. It began in 1997 when Cleusa started the business in a 20 m² space in the city of Salto, in the interior of São Paulo. The company became a franchise in 2006 and opened its first store outside Brazil, in Orlando, USA, in 2019.

In 1997, Cleusa started her business in a 20 m² space in the city of Salto, in the interior of São Paulo. She came from a poor family and had worked as a boia-fria, sugarcane cutter, and later as a domestic worker. The opportunity arose when she was an employee of a loudspeaker company; her boss's wife made cakes to order and, when she had a health problem, asked Cleusa to help her, eventually stopping cake sales and letting Cleusa continue the business. Cleusa began making the cakes and delivering them on foot to customers. Over the years, the recipes were improved and, with her mother's help, she was able to open a small shop in Salto. In 2001, four years later, she moved the business to an 80 m² space—four times larger than the first—and began opening other stores in nearby cities such as Sorocaba, Americana, Itu, and Indaiatuba. In 2006, Sodiê Doces became a franchise. Encouraged by one of her customers, Cleusa took courses on franchising without knowing what the subject was about. She sold the first franchise license to this same customer who encouraged her. In 2009, two years after opening the first franchise, Sodiê Doces already had a total of 50 franchised stores. In 2017, the beginning of the business succession was marked by the inauguration of the network's first savory snacks factory, led by Diego, Cleusa's son, who launched the Sodiê Salgados brand. In 2019, Sodiê Doces opened its first store outside Brazil, in Orlando, USA.
