Overview

The Società di Studi Valdesi (SSV) is an Italian cultural and scholarly association founded in 1881 to promote research on the history of the Waldensian Churches and on religious reform movements in Piedmont, Italy, and Europe. Based in the Waldensian valleys of Piedmont, the Society has for over a century served as a central institution for the preservation and study of Waldensian heritage. It publishes the journal «Riforma e Movimenti Religiosi» (formerly the Bollettino, published from 1884 to 2017), as well as the series «La Beidana» and «Collana Storica». The Society maintains a substantial library, historical archive, and photographic archive, and organizes conferences, seminars, and summer schools, including the annual Convegno storico and the Atti dei convegni del Laux. It also supports young researchers through research grants and online activities. As a non-profit organization, the SSV operates primarily in Italy and contributes to the broader European understanding of Protestant and Waldensian history.
