Smudge Films

Smudge Films is an independent production company dedicated to supporting personal films with unique worldviews. The company operates as a boutique film production outfit, developing and producing feature films and other projects helmed by distinctive filmmakers. Its stated mission emphasizes auteur-driven, personal cinema rather than broad commercial fare, positioning it within the independent film sector. The company's public slate includes several titles with announced release years. Among them are Sour Minnows, directed by Harrison Atkins, slated for 2026 and associated with the Fantasia 2026 and Rooftop Films 2026 festival circuit; Joybubbles, directed by Rachael J Morrison, also dated 2026; Maddie's Secret, directed by John Early, dated 2026; and By Design, directed by Amanda Kramer, dated 2025. These projects indicate an ongoing focus on filmmaker-driven narratives and festival-facing releases. Smudge Films maintains a website at smudge-films.com, where it presents its slate, news and information, and an archive of past work. The company states that it cannot accept unsolicited submissions, and it offers a consultation sign-up form for those seeking to engage with the company. This suggests a curated development approach rather than an open-door submissions policy. As an independent production company, Smudge Films is privately held. Public information about its ownership structure, founding year, and headquarters is limited. Its identity is defined primarily by its creative partnerships and its stated commitment to personal, worldview-driven filmmaking.
