Overview
The Slovenian Pharmaceutical Society (Slovensko farmacevtsko društvo) is a professional association whose origins trace to the networking of pharmacists that began in 1945, with a legal-formal basis for establishing an independent pharmacists' society created in 1950. Pharmaceutical technicians joined the society in 1961. Members organize within regional branches and professional-interest sections; activities today take place in 9 branches and 12 sections. The society's governing body is an executive committee composed of one representative from each branch and section, led by a president. It describes itself as the strongest link among individual segments of Slovenian pharmacy, connecting experts from industry, pharmacies, educational institutions and administration. It organizes continuing professional education, including an annual symposium held alongside its regular annual assembly that attracts between 300 and 400 members, and international scientific symposia organized by its sections.
History
The networking of pharmacists that began in 1945 gained a legal-formal basis for the establishment of an independent pharmacists' society in 1950. In 1961, pharmaceutical technicians also joined the society. From the very beginning, members have organized within regional branches and professional-interest sections; today activities take place in 9 branches and 12 sections. Since 1975 the society has awarded Minařik decorations to its most deserving members, and since 1990 Minařik recognitions. The awards are named after the well-known historian of pharmacy Prof. Franc Minařik. The society's operations are governed by society acts, and members are bound by the SFD code of pharmaceutical ethics. The governing body is an executive committee composed of one representative from each branch and section, led by a president. The society organizes various forms of supplementary professional training for members; at the national level the most important professional meeting is the symposium held alongside the regular annual assembly, attracting between 300 and 400 members active in various fields of pharmacy, divided thematically into a systemic and a pharmacotherapeutic topic. Annual professional meetings organized by the sections take place regularly, and branches organize monthly lectures in their regional environments. At the international level, the society's sections organize scientific symposia, usually under the auspices of international organizations in which the society is a member.
