SK KAKEN Co., Ltd. (エスケー化研株式会社) is a Japanese manufacturer of architectural paints and finishing materials. Its official site states it has been 'coating homes for half a century' and holds the No.1 domestic share in architectural finishing coating materials. The company was founded in 1955 in Kita-ku, Osaka as Shikoku Chemical Research Institute, began manufacturing and selling architectural paint products, was incorporated in 1958, renamed Shikoku Kaken Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1963, and adopted the name SK KAKEN Co., Ltd. in 1991. Its headquarters are in Ibaraki, Osaka. It is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard Market under securities code 4628, and its business covers architectural finishing coating materials, fireproof/heat-insulating materials, and other chemical products.

The company was founded in 1955 (Showa 30) in Kita-ku, Osaka as Shikoku Chemical Research Institute, starting distillation and refining of waste liquid solvents for paints and the manufacture and sale of architectural paint products. In 1958 it was reorganized into a corporation as Shikoku Chemical Research Institute Co., Ltd. In 1963 it changed its name to Shikoku Kaken Kogyo Co., Ltd. In 1967 it built and started operation of the Tokyo Plant (now Kanagawa Plant) in Zama, Kanagawa Prefecture. In 1972 it succeeded in developing a new exterior spray tile. In 1974 the head office division moved to Nakahozumi, Ibaraki, Osaka. In 1975 it succeeded in developing non-combustible ceramic paint and water-based enamel, receiving an important technology research and development subsidy from MITI. In 1976 the Osaka Plant became the first in the industry to receive JIS factory display approval for architectural exterior paints, and offices were established in the Philippines and Singapore. In 1981 it established the subsidiary SKK(S)PTE.,LTD. in Singapore. In 1984 it established SKK(M)SDN.,BHD. (now SK KAKEN(M)SDN.,BHD.) in Malaysia and SKK(HK)CO.,LTD. in Hong Kong. In 1991 it implemented CI and changed its name to 'SK KAKEN Co., Ltd.' In 1994 it relocated its head office and listed its shares on the Osaka Securities Exchange JASDAQ market. In 2002 it established Shikoku Kaken (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. in Shanghai, China, and SK KAKEN(THAILAND)CO.,LTD in Bangkok, Thailand. In 2005 it marked the 50th anniversary of its founding.
