Overview
Skill Street Entertainment (commonly abbreviated SSE) was a Finnish independent record label focused on hip hop music. It was founded in 2009 by the rapper and producer LX-Beats, also known as Rekami. Operating from Finland, the label built a small but coherent roster of Finnish-language hip hop artists and released a sequence of albums and EPs between 2009 and 2011. The label's catalogue included releases by LX-Beats himself, as well as by artists such as Lavis, Are, Kriso, Hannes H., Rekami, Mikrofonistit, Half Past Never Band, Altis and Eino Antiwäkki. Its releases carried catalogue numbers beginning with the SSE prefix, for example SSE001 through SSE009, alongside a separate LXBCD series for LX-Beats material. Notable titles included Lavis's "Ookkonä huudeilt?!" (2009), Are's "Jaalan elämää" (2010), Kriso's "Nappo EP" (2010), Mikrofonistit's "Raakavedos" (2011), Half Past Never Band's "Cubicle Coma" (2011), Altis's "Ottaa päähän" (2011), Eino Antiwäkki's "Rotsit auki" (2011) and Rekami's "Nollabudjetti" (2011). Skill Street Entertainment ran into financial difficulty and filed for bankruptcy in early 2012, after which the company ceased operations. As a result, its active life as a label spanned only about three years. The label is remembered as part of the Finnish underground hip hop scene of the late 2000s and early 2010s, and it is sometimes mentioned alongside other Finnish hip hop labels such as KPC Records.
