History

Sidel states it has over 170 years of experience innovating and partnering with producers to deliver high-performing packaging solutions in the beverage, food and home and personal care markets. In 1973, Remy introduced the world's first aseptic filling technology for ultra-high temperature milk in High-Density P. In 1974, Cermex was founded in Corcelles lès Cîteaux, France, becoming a leader in case packing and palletising. In 1980, Sidel introduced the world's first SBO commercial production solution for PET beverages, with the SBO blower for carbonated soft drinks and output of 3,600 bottles per hour. In 1996, Sidel acquired Cermex. In 1997, Sidel introduced the world's first integrated blow-fill-cap solution, the Sidel Combi, initially for still water, and acquired Gebo and Alsim, an Italian manufacturer of filling machines. In 2003, the Sidel Group, including Gebo and Cermex, joined the Tetra Laval Group, becoming one of its three main industrial groups alongside Tetra Pak and De Laval. In 2005, Simonazzi joined the Tetra Laval Group and merged with Sidel to provide complete liquid-packaging solutions for the beverage industry. In 2006, Sidel launched Predis™, a dry preform decontamination system. In 2018, Sidel acquired PET Engineering to strengthen and diversify its packaging solutions portfolio. In 2019, Sidel acquired Comep, further establishing its moulds and tooling offering. In 2020, Gentlebrand was founded, born from the experience of Sidel and PET Engineering, specializing in packaging design. In 2021, Sidel merged COMEP and PET Engineering into a new PET packaging services provider, COMPETEK. In 2023, Sidel acquired Makro Labelling to expand its offering in labelling machines.
