Sico

Sico is a Canadian paint brand. Its official website presents interior and exterior paints, primers, exterior stains, and products for professional painters, along with a colour palette and a retailer locator. According to the brand's about page, Peintures Sico inc. was created in 1937 when Roméo Fillion and Marcel Deslauriers became partners, beginning production of commercial and industrial paints and varnishes in Québec.

According to the brand's about page, Peintures Sico inc. was created in 1937 when Roméo Fillion and Marcel Deslauriers became partners; they bought equipment from Arthur Sicard, had it delivered to Québec, and began production of commercial and industrial paints and varnishes. The page states that the early years were difficult for the company, which was also affected by the economic crisis hitting Québec. On 21 December 1942, a large fire destroyed the company's equipment and Sico was forced to move. In 1955 Sico opened a branch in Montréal, its first outside Québec City. In the 1960s and 1970s Sico expanded through acquisitions of Peintures Mont-Royal Inc., Durity Paint & Lacquer Company Limited, and Peintures Crown Diamond Limitée. In 1964, in Longueuil, on a 300,000-square-foot site, Sico built a plant with modern equipment for manufacturing products and increased its storage space. In 1977 Sico became the largest paint manufacturer in Québec. In 1986, to grow the brand, Sico acquired Mulco, described as the leader in the sealants industry at the time and still an industry leader in Québec. In 1993 Sico entered big-box stores.
