Shobido

Shobido Co., Ltd. (粧美堂株式会社) is a Japanese company that states it has been involved in beauty for over 70 years. Its business includes cosmetics and cosmetic accessories, character products, pet supplies, contact lenses (clear/color), and OEM for miscellaneous goods, cosmetics, and contact lenses. The company was founded in October 1948 in Osaka and was reorganized as a corporation in December 1949.

Shobido Co., Ltd. was founded in October 1948 in Hakuraicho, Osaka City, by Terada Masaji, who returned from the war and believed that post-war Japan would need decorative items. Initially, it operated as a wholesale distributor of cosmetic accessories, purchasing goods from local factories in Yao and selling them to wholesalers in Tokyo and other areas. In 1949, it was reorganized as a corporation. During the 1960s and 1970s, it expanded its sales network nationwide, opened textile and trade divisions, and began overseas procurement. In 1974, Terada Ichiro became managing director and led the company through a shift from being a large wholesaler to directly selling to retailers. In 1975, the company established Pionio Ornament Co., Ltd. (later renamed Piony in 1980) to develop its own cosmetic accessories, marking its first step toward becoming a manufacturer.
