Overview

SHO-BOND Corporation is a Japanese construction group whose business centers on the maintenance and repair of social infrastructure rather than new construction. Its predecessor, Showa Kogyo Corporation, was established on June 4, 1958 in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, by founder Akira Ueda. The company developed an epoxy-resin-based high-performance adhesive in 1959 and branded it SHO-BOND, beginning production the same year. In 1964 it carried out resin injection for slab cracks in the restoration of the Showa Bridge, which had collapsed in the Niigata earthquake, establishing its position in structural repair. In 2008 a share transfer created SHO-BOND Holdings Co., Ltd. as a wholly owning parent company, with SHO-BOND Construction Co., Ltd., SHO-BOND Chemical Co., Ltd., and SHO-BOND Coupling Co., Ltd. as wholly owned subsidiaries.

History

The company was established and registered as Showa Kogyo Corporation on June 4, 1958 in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo, by founder Akira Ueda, then 31 years old. It initially focused on rigid PVC processing and piping work. In 1959, epoxy resin used for crack repair lining at the Yakuwa Dam led to the development of an epoxy-resin-based high-performance adhesive in September, and a product branded SHO-BOND was developed with production starting in November. In 1960 the head office moved to Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, and the company began selling and installing SHO-BOND epoxy resin at construction sites. In 1963 the company name was changed to SHO-BOND Co., Ltd. In 1964, following the Niigata earthquake, it handled resin injection for slab cracks in the restoration of the collapsed Showa Bridge, solidifying its position in structural repair. In 1975 the name was changed to SHO-BOND Construction Co., Ltd. and the head office moved to Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo. In 1987 the company listed on the Second Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, and in 1989 was designated to the First Section. In 2008, through a share transfer, SHO-BOND Holdings Co., Ltd. was established as the wholly owning parent company, with SHO-BOND Construction, SHO-BOND Chemical, and SHO-BOND Coupling as wholly owned subsidiaries. In 2009 the head office moved to Chuo-ku, Tokyo.
