Overview

Sestarete Piemonte (also known as Sesta Rete) is a private regional television broadcaster based in Beinasco, in the Province of Turin, Piedmont, Italy. It began broadcasting in the second half of the 1980s using frequencies that became available after the closure of TeleVenaria (UHF channels 36 and 26), from which it also inherited its corporate name. Initially its coverage was limited to the city of Turin and its province. In 1994 the Ministry of Telecommunications granted it an official broadcasting concession. One of its early programmes, Zona Franca (1995), was hosted by Gianfranco Funari. With the transition from analogue to digital, Sestarete was distributed in the provinces of Turin, Cuneo and Asti through its own multiplex, tuned to LCN 85, and later its signal partially covered the provinces of Alessandria, Vercelli and Biella. The broadcaster also acquired a multiplex in Liguria, reaching all four provinces there (on LCN 192), while in Lombardy it was hosted in the multiplex of Rete 55, covering the central-western part of the region (tuned to LCN 217, moving to number 295 from 2020). These were the years of a change of ownership, logo and schedule. Since the beginning of 2017 it has been managed by the Turin-based company Beacom s.r.l. with LCN 19 for Piedmont, and it simultaneously adopted new graphics and a new network logo: on screen the words "SESTA RETE" appear (rather than "6 rete" as in the past), placed at the bottom right, and the words "IL 19" were added, positioned at the top right. The schedule features a regional news programme, Reporter TG, service and cooking segments, programmes dedicated to local initiatives and in-depth coverage of the day's local events, such as N' cicinin de Piemont, DestinaTO, Appuntamenti Piemonte, Mosaico, Tg Events, Borgo Italia, Agrisapori, Dietro le quinte, Instant future and Bekér on tour - In cucina con Nonis, and ample space is reserved for environmental and animal rights themes; indeed the network repeats the main programmes of the channel Amici Animali Tv, such as Curiamo i nostri amici animali, Cucciolandia, Sano e Vegano and L'angolo di Tea. From July 2019 Sestarete repeated the music channel Otto FM TV for one hour in prime time and one hour in late morning. From January 2020 it broadcast the programmes of the Supersix circuit for several hours a day (specifically in the morning and at dinner time), namely Japanese anime series, cartoons, films, TV series and telenovelas. Due to the reduction of frequencies caused by the freeing of the 700 MHz band, in March 2022 Sestarete was no longer tuned in Lombardy, but it managed to increase its coverage in Piedmont, where it now reaches the whole region on LCN 16.
