Overview
Seniorsaken is a broad Norwegian interest organization for people over the age of fifty. It was founded on 21 May 2002 and launched as a popular movement by a group of well-known Norwegian public figures, including comedian Rolv Wesenlund, former police chief Willy Haugli, actors Anne Marie Ottersen and Ellen Horn, NRK veterans Vidar Lønn-Arnesen and Mette Janson, former Trondheim mayor Marvin Wiseth, financial journalist Christian Vennerød, and TV and radio personality Kalle Lisberg. The organization fights for the rights of the elderly in society, for increased attention to their situation, and for dignified treatment and care of old people. It seeks to influence the power apparatus through media statements and provides advice to individuals, among other things through its magazine Senior. In February 2003, Seniorsaken merged with the competing organization Senior Norge. That year it gained support from people in all social classes and reached nearly 50,000 members. Mette Janson served as secretary-general and council member until her death in 2004. NRK journalist Steinar Mediaas then took over as secretary-general until September 2006. Later the organization was led by Tore Henning Larsen, lawyer Audhild Freberg Iversen, and information manager Dag Bredal. Marvin Wiseth is the organization's board chair, while Knut Chr. Høvik is secretary-general.
