Overview
Sektkellerei Herres, formally Peter Herres Wein- und Sektkellerei GmbH, is a German beverage producer headquartered in Trier, Rhineland-Palatinate. Founded in 1954 by Peter and Hans Herres in Leiwen on the Mosel, it was one of the first sparkling wine cellars in the region. The company moved to its current Trier site on Rudolf-Diesel-Straße in 1959 and later expanded into export markets from the late 1960s. Over the decades it transformed from a classic Sekt cellar into an innovative beverage manufacturer, today operating as part of the Herres Gruppe International. The company produces and distributes Sekt (sparkling wine), Schaumwein, Perlwein (semi-sparkling wine), alcoholic mixed drinks, cocktails, premixes, alcohol-free wellness drinks and children's party drinks. Its portfolio includes well-known own brands such as Jive (Sekt cocktail), Gracioso (Frizzante), Aperito (Sekt cocktail), Keller Geister (Secco), Fruta y Pasión (fruit wine cocktail) and Blizzard (wine and fruit cocktails). In addition to its own brands, Herres acts as a system supplier to retail partners, producing a large number of private label and exclusive brands for national and international retail chains, and developing customer- and country-specific product concepts. With around 170 employees, Herres operates a modern production facility that has seen continuous investment. In 1991 it commissioned what was described as the world's largest Sekt bottling plant. Subsequent expansions included a fourth filling line in 2009, a new finished goods warehouse and another filling line in 2015, additional stainless steel tanks in 2024, and various packaging and automation upgrades. The company emphasizes quality management, holding certifications and awards, including repeated recognition from the DLG (German Agricultural Society) for long-standing product quality. Its products are sold in Germany and exported internationally, and the company maintains a factory outlet (Werkverkauf) at its logistics site in Trier.
