History
SEED Lab., Corporation was established in 1981 in Shibuya, Tokyo, with capital of 5 million yen, under the name 株式会社日本シード研究所. The founder, Tokishige Kinoshita, aimed to develop improved vacuum components and systems for the rapidly growing semiconductor industry. The company name "SEED" stands for "System Engineering for Evaluation and Development," reflecting its mission to evaluate existing products and develop better alternatives. In 1981, the company acquired a 950 m² factory site in Yoshioka, Ayase, Kanagawa Prefecture. The first assembly factory was completed in 1985. In 1986, the company received a development assistance grant from the Small and Medium Enterprise Venture Promotion Fund. In 1990, capital was increased to 10 million yen, and construction began on a five-story new headquarters building on the Ayase site. The building was completed in 1991, and the company relocated there. In 2000, SEED Lab. acquired additional factory real estate (site area 950 m², building area 490 m²). In 2001, the factory building was expanded and modified. A new cleanroom was completed in 2002, followed by an expansion. In 2006, the company obtained ISO 9001 certification and introduced a hydrocarbon-based large degreasing cleaning system. In 2007, a new research building and a high-class cleanroom (Class 6 per JIS B 9920) were completed. In 2014, a vacuum heating furnace was introduced. In 2015, a gantry crane for the cleanroom was installed. In 2021, liquid nitrogen supply equipment for the cleanroom was introduced. In 2022, the company obtained a second-hand goods dealer license. In 2023, the company website was renewed. Today, SEED Lab. continues to operate from its Ayase headquarters, providing vacuum equipment and related engineering services to customers in Japan.
